It looks like the upcoming Stonehaven Farmer’s & Produce Market on Saturday, 3 May, is going to have a fair selection of stalls setting up ready for the off at 0900 hours! The market goes on until 1300 hours.
The weather is expected to be quite reasonable, providing a great opportunity to clear the cobwebs and enjoy some good company as well as taking the opportunity to view and buy local produce.
The Royal British Legion (upstairs) will be open for a cuppie and a fly piece, run by the Ladies’ Section.
Here’s a summary of the vendors and activities you can expect:
Fresh meats may be seen and bought from Sandy Ingram with his home cured pork products and Highland beef from Grace Noble’s Aberdeenshire Highland Beef.
Fresh fish and shellfish is available for Ed Fletcher’s crew at Granite City Fish.
Locally produced and sourced vegetables will be there from Westerton Farmers of Laurencekirk courtesy of Fiona & Ross.
For those with a taste for choccie woccie doo-dahs and such like there’s plenty of selections in this particular “box” from Rachel Widger’s Green Cocoa Team (gluten free), Karen Dalgarno’s scrumptious traybakes at the Wee Brown Mouse Bakery, affa fine shortbread from the ever smiling Shona’s Shortbread, a grand range of flavoured fudges from Lynn Stephen of Gourdon Goodies. So, as they say, something for every taste.
Recent, and new arrivals to our market, include Christian Stolt’s artisan Highland bubbly (Seidar); Kaya Malinowska’s honey and honey infusions from Carnie Bees at Midmar; Zingy Tingy Beetroot from a family recipe with Nic Flavel; Tracey Smedley with her award winning flavoured cheeses at the Damn Fine Cheese Company.
The bakery side is covered by two amazing young bakers, Steven Buchan from the award winning Vegan Bay Baker and Stuart King from the “sourdough by the sea” micro bakery at Lilybank Bakehouse.
Brian Battensby from Cupa-Ti will be there with his varied blends of teas; Ivano Campagnoli, The Pasta Tree, and his locally produced pastas and pasta sauces; the girls from Wark Farm Pies will be bringing their still warm and tasty craft pies.
Sam Warnes, a dedicated and knowledgeable plant enthusiast, of Culter Perennials will be set up outside the Legion with a range of all things horticultural including seedlings, established perennials and all things to make your garden look nice.
On the charity side Stonehaven Lions and the Community Sports Hub will set up stalls (I believe the Lions may be doing some burgers….) and the CSH will be promoting their “Kit For All” initiative, though we don’t yet know what sport is being represented this month. We love surprises!
Stonehaven & District Men’s Shed will have their market support team on the ground to assist and ensure that all goes smoothly and safely for the duration of the market.
