AN evening of real-time practise drama took place today – with a ‘call’ to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, SFRS, control room alerting the services a child had fallen from one of the cliffs to the south of Dunnottar Castle and its parents were trying to rescue them – with one of the parents also suffering serious injury.
Adding to the situation, as the emergency services were making their initial rescue, a photographer at the cliffs overlooking the castle fell down a steep embankment and suffered serious leg injuries.
The accident simulation involved Scottish Fire & Rescue, Police Scotland, HM Coastguard, RNLI and a drone operator. The exercise was run in real time and simulated as a real incident.
By 7.15pm, the Coastguard and SFRS were working together to perform the rescue of the first three casualties, including one rescued from the beach by helicopter.
Meanwhile, by 7.30pm the police were advising of the further incident involving the photographer who was eventually rescued by boat by the RNLI boat at 7.45pm.
The evening’s exercise was concluded by a 9pm debrief and a 9.30pm finish – pint in the pub boys?
