A North East dance school with a powerful mission to tackle rural isolation and promote equal opportunities has received national acclaim at the Scottish Dance Awards 2025.
Rhythm Nation Dance and Fitness, which operates across Stonehaven, Laurencekirk, and Aberdeen City, was Highly Commended in the Best Dance School in Scotland category, recognising its outstanding contribution to dance, education, and community wellbeing. The school was also a finalist for Best Competitive Dance School, underscoring its growing influence on the Scottish dance scene.
Founded by local dance entrepreneur Natasha Stewart, Rhythm Nation was born out of a commitment to bring high-quality, inclusive dance training to young people across rural and urban communities alike. From its early days in a primary school gym hall, the school has grown into a dynamic, values-driven organisation serving hundreds of dancers across the North East.
“We are absolutely buzzing!” said Stewart. “To receive this kind of recognition on a national level is such an honour. What started as a small dream has grown into something that touches the lives of so many young people and their families.”
With a focus on connection, confidence, and creativity, Rhythm Nation actively works to combat rural isolation and ensure every child has access to the transformative power of dance — regardless of location, background, or ability.
“We’ve always been passionate about breaking down barriers — whether that’s financial, geographical, or social,” said Stewart. “Dance should be for everyone. We’ve seen first-hand how it can build resilience, friendships, and self-belief.”
Rhythm Nation is known for its award-winning choreography, welcoming community spirit, and strong mental wellbeing focus. It offers a wide range of styles including street, commercial, lyrical, ballet, tap, and acro — catering to both recreational dancers and competitive performers.
As the school prepares for its highly anticipated Summer 2025 shows in June, interest from new families continues to grow — and now is the perfect time to be involved.
Families who want to join Rhythm Nation after the summer shows are encouraged to register now for the waiting list — places fill fast!
In the meantime, young dancers can get a taste of the Rhythm Nation magic by joining our upcoming Inservice Day Camp and Summer Camp, open to all levels and packed with fun, creativity, and community.
“These camps are a brilliant way to meet our team, try new styles, and be part of something special,” said Stewart. “Whether your child is new to dance or looking to build on their skills, this is a great way to start the journey with us.”
With national recognition now under its belt, Rhythm Nation is looking ahead with big plans — continuing to inspire, uplift, and empower young people across the North East.
