Lion’s Den TCK Modern Martial Arts, led by 5th Dan Black Belt Malcolm Evans, continues to build a legacy that reaches far beyond its mats.
Now home to over 280 active members, Lion’s Den TCK is more than a training facility—it’s a second home for students of all ages, providing structure, discipline, and purpose at a time when communities need it most. From kickboxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to leadership development and youth mentorship, this is where lives are changed.
A Historic Black Belt Milestone
This September marks a major moment in the club’s history, as a large and diverse group of students prepare to take part in one of the most significant Black Belt tests to date. Among the candidates are Junior Black Belt hopefuls as well as adult students grading for their 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and even 4th Dan Black Belts.
If all are successful, this will bring the total number of active Black Belts at Lion’s Den TCK to over 40—a phenomenal achievement that reflects the academy’s dedication to long-term student development and high-level instruction.
Every single Black Belt has been trained from white belt under the guidance of Sensei Malcolm Evans, with many of them having dedicated between 6 and 15 years to their martial arts journey. It’s a rare accomplishment in today’s world and a powerful testament to the commitment of the students and the strength of the club’s teachings.
“This isn’t just about belts—it’s about growth, loyalty, and the deep connection we have as a martial arts family,” says Evans.
“To see students achieve their 1st through 4th Dans, alongside juniors reaching their Black Belts, is incredibly rewarding.”
Rooted in Legacy, Built on Excellence
The TCK in Lion’s Den TCK stands for Tention Championship Karate, a name that honours Sensei Malcolm’s own instructor, Professor Jadi Tention, an internationally respected martial artist based in the Bronx, New York City. Professor Jadi and Malcolm continue to work closely together to deliver a world-class martial arts curriculum and ensure the highest standards across all classes.
This powerful lineage brings a unique blend of tradition, innovation, and global expertise to every session on the mats.
A Thriving Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Program
Alongside its striking arts, Lion’s Den TCK also boasts a strong and growing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program, led by Coach Gavin Ramsay—a highly skilled martial artist with many years of training and competition experience. The BJJ program is proudly affiliated with Escapology BJJ, under the expert guidance of Professors Tom Barlow and Chelsea Leah, two of the most respected names in the sport worldwide. This affiliation ensures students receive elite-level training in both technique and mindset.

While its technical curriculum is world-class, Lion’s Den TCK is just as committed to shaping confident, respectful, and resilient individuals. The club’s Junior Leadership Programme helps young students become positive role models, with many earning Saltire Awards for their contribution to the local community.
The academy also works closely with schools and families, often providing training at no cost for children who need support, direction, or simply a safe space. “We’re not just building fighters—we’re building people,” says Evans.
