Stonehaven Golf Club AGM Marks Strong Achievements and Commits to an Ambitious 2026

Momentum Builds as Stonehaven Golf Club AGM Sets the Stage for a Big Year

Stonehaven Golf Club held its Annual General Meeting last Thursday evening, with a strong turnout and a welcoming atmosphere that reflected the club’s growing sense of momentum. Captain Chris Taylor opened the meeting by thanking members for their engagement and contributions throughout the year, noting that the AGM is an important moment for the club to come together, share ideas and look ahead with confidence.

Chris was re‑elected as Club Captain for 2026, alongside Allister McKechnie as Vice-Captain and Nicol Kindness as Treasurer. Their continued leadership was warmly supported by the membership. Five council members — Ivan Groundwater, Graeme Wilson, Dave Allan, Mike Halliday, and Iain Brattey — were also re‑elected, ensuring continuity and experience on the committee.

Three new members were welcomed onto the council: Jacqui Blackburn, stepping into the role of Ladies Captain, along with Catherine Duncan and Brian Davie. The meeting also expressed its thanks to Wilma Lawrence, who has stepped down after two years of dedicated service as Ladies Captain.

Two council spaces remain open, and members — including those who may never have considered committee work before — were encouraged to come forward for an informal chat about how they might contribute.

A Year of Major Improvements

The AGM reflected on a year of significant developments around the clubhouse and course. As previously reported in The Bellman, the club has now completed a series of major upgrades: new disabled access ramps and facilities, upgraded windows, a refurbished balcony, new front doors, and a rebuilt staircase.

These improvements represent long‑term investment in the club’s future, designed not only to enhance the experience for members but also to make the clubhouse more welcoming and accessible to visitors and the wider Stonehaven community.

The Return of the 13th Hole

One of the most anticipated announcements of the evening was the confirmed reopening date for the club’s signature 13th hole — Saturday 4th April 2026. The hole, known for its dramatic setting and unique challenge, is expected to draw considerable interest when it returns to play.

A full marketing plan will be launched in the coming weeks, leading up to an official opening ceremony that will bring together sponsors, benefactors, and invited guests. The club also confirmed a new two‑year sponsorship agreement with Scott James & Associates, long‑standing supporters of Stonehaven Golf Club.

Tourism Growth and a Call to Support ‘The View’

The club’s participation in Scottish Golf Tourism Week has already resulted in 111 bookings for the 2026 season — a strong early indicator of the club’s appeal to visiting golfers.

Closer to home, members and non‑members alike were encouraged to make greater use of The View, the clubhouse restaurant. The message was clear: the space is open to everyone in Stonehaven, not just golfers, and the club hopes to see more community events and social gatherings in the year ahead. A survey will soon be issued to help shape the 2026 social calendar.

Thanks to Staff and Volunteers

The meeting closed with sincere thanks to the club’s staff and the many volunteers who give their time to support the course and clubhouse. Appreciation was expressed for Ian Shearer, Doug Barnard, Ken Green, Stuart Campbell, Raymond Shearer and Bob Hemphill, whose practical help throughout the year has been invaluable.

Special thanks were also given to Kenny Duncan for his ongoing IT support, Ian Wood for his artistic contributions, and Ivan Groundwater for his exceptional commitment to keeping and developing the course and clubhouse.

Looking Ahead

The overall tone of the AGM was one of optimism. With major improvements completed, the return of the 13th hole on the horizon, and a renewed focus on community engagement, Stonehaven Golf Club enters 2026 with a strong sense of purpose.

As Captain Chris Taylor noted, the club’s progress reflects the commitment of its members, staff, and volunteers — and the year ahead promises to carry that momentum forward.
