Library Relocation Under Spotlight at February 10th Community Council Meeting

Library Relocation Decision

A key item on the agenda at the next Stonehaven & District Community Council meeting on Tuesday February 10 will be Aberdeenshire Council’s proposal to relocate Stonehaven Library from its current Evan Street site to the Council’s Viewmount offices.

The Bellman understands Mr Tim Stephen, area manager for Kincardine & Mearns, will attend the meeting to answer questions from community councillors, following Aberdeenshire Council’s recent engagement exercise held at Stonehaven Library.

There remains a lack of clear information on the process. Who is to make the final decision on the outcome for the library? Will it be an officer decision or will it be made by councillors in committee?

Openness and Transparency

Many locals are still angry and upset about the closure of the Invercarron Resource Centre – a decision taken by AHSCP officers without any public consultation or real explanation.

The relocation and reduction in size of the library would equally have a huge impact on Stonehaven’s residents of all ages. It is important people understand the reasons and processes of such important decisions.

So The Bellman would like to remind Stonehaven residents that all Community Council meetings are open to the public, offering an opportunity to hear the discussion first‑hand and to raise questions on matters of concern.

If you can’t attend the Community Council meeting, you can still make your voice count. Email your views on the proposed relocation to stonehaven.library@aberdeenshire.gov.uk.
