Musical Chairs at Community Council

By bellmannews / March 9, 2026

THE band of volunteers who sit round the table each month in an effort to represent our best interests are having a tempestuous time and must regroup when they meet tomorrow – and hopefully not collapse.

Stonehaven and District Community Council’s agenda for Tuesday March 10 signals a series of resignations, including those of office bearers. So at the very least, for SDCC to continue, elections are on the cards.

Doing a proper job for the community takes up more time than the monthly meetings. Behind the scenes effort is required to read council papers, deal with correspondence, attend related meetings, consult with locals, and help with events such as the Nippy Dip and putting up the Christmas tree. And then there are defibrillators to finance, service and maintain.

Right now there is a raft of hefty electrical infrastructure planning applications to understand and consider. Supermarkets are turning up like long-awaited buses. Going forward, the next Aberdeenshire Council Local Development Plan will require input.

Clearly a solid, proactive team is required: fingers are crossed for a positive spirit emerging from the current chaos.

The meeting in the former Sheriff Court Building is open to the public.
