Save Stonehaven Library Campaign Smashes 1,000 Signatures — And Moves to a New Unlimited Petition

The community response to the campaign to Save Stonehaven Library has been nothing short of remarkable. In just a few days, more than 1,000 residents added their names to the petition calling for the library to remain in the heart of the town. The speed and strength of the support even filled the maximum capacity of the original petition form.

A campaign spokesperson said: “We were absolutely blown away. Hitting 1,000 signatures so quickly shows just how strongly Stonehaven feels about keeping its library where it belongs. Reaching the technical limit of the form was a brilliant problem to have.”

The petition has now moved to a new, unlimited‑capacity version, ensuring everyone who wants to sign can do so:

The team would like to apologise to any members of the community who tried to sign but couldn’t, and encourages them to please try again using the new link.

For supporters who do not have an Aberdeenshire address but still wish to voice their concern, the campaign is encouraging them to contact Aberdeenshire Council directly to share their views.

The campaign is also encouraging supporters to help spread the word through WhatsApp, which has become one of the quickest ways to reach friends, family, and local groups.
Supporters can simply copy the petition link and share it in their WhatsApp chats, or post it in neighbourhood, school, club, or community group chats where appropriate. Even a handful of shares can help the petition reach hundreds more people.

“We’re ramping up our campaign plan,” the spokesperson added. “The first thousand signatures were just the beginning. We’ll need thousands more as we continue to show the strength of feeling in Stonehaven.”

As part of this next phase, the campaign will also be running an in‑person petition signing at the Stonehaven Farmers’ Market on Saturday 4th April, giving residents another easy way to add their names. The campaign team would like to thank the Farmers’ Market organisers for supporting this effort. This is one of several community‑based actions now being rolled out as momentum continues to build.

The campaign continues to emphasise that Stonehaven Library is more than a building — it is a vital community hub, a place of learning, connection, and support for all ages.

Residents are encouraged to sign the new petition, share it widely, and stay tuned for further updates as the campaign gathers pace.
