On Sunday May 24th in St James’s Church at 7:30 pm , the Stonehaven Chorus warmly invites you to a special evening of uplifting music with a performance of Johannes Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem, conducted by our new Musical Director, Lizzy Unsworth Wilson.
Lizzy Unsworth Wilson was appointed in January of this year as the successor to Ralph Jamieson who gave notice at the AGM last June of his intention to retire at Christmas 2025. Ralph had been Conductor and Musical Director since 2014, following a long association with The Stonehaven Chorus. He had been conducting since the age of 14 and developed a very extensive repertoire.

Lizzy is a Scottish mezzo-soprano with a degree in music from Goldsmiths University and a Masters degree in performance from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She has been based in Brechin since 2021. She currently teaches singing and has experience of directing choirs. She has performed as a soloist in London and locally with the Charitas Choir, Aberdeen Choral and Angus Choral.
Among the most powerful and deeply human works in the choral repertoire, Brahms’ Requiem is unlike the traditional Latin setting of the Mass for the Dead. Drawing on German texts, it offers comfort and consolation for the living, speaking of hope, peace, and renewal. From the tender opening “Selig sind, die da Leid tragen” to the radiant assurance of the final movement, the music moves from reflection to joy with sweeping melodies and glowing choral sound.
This performance marks an exciting new chapter for Stonehaven Chorus under Lizzy’s direction, and we are delighted to share this landmark work as part of our continuing musical journey.
Join us for an unforgettable evening of music that comforts the soul and celebrates the power of hope.
