CAMPAIGNERS opposing Aberdeenshire Council’s proposals to relocate the town’s library to their Viewmount office will be collecting petition signatures at tomorrow’s farmers’ market.
Over 1500 locals have already signed the petition, which Save Our Library campaigners hope will persuade the local authority to rethink the move.
Elizabeth Porter told The Bellman they would have a stall at the market and would have people dotted around the town centre in a bid to engage with as many residents as possible.
She said: ”It is very important that people are aware of the proposals and that they are given an opportunity to voice their concerns by signing the petition.”
Mrs Porter said the proposal to relocate the library to a less visible, harder-to-reach site raises serious questions about access and consultation.
”As residents saw with the Invercarron Resource Centre, decisions can be presented as settled before meaningful public engagement has taken place.
”A petition is necessary to ensure that community voices are heard before irreversible changes are made,”
