Open Garden Invitation

By bellmannews / July 31, 2026

A DECADES-LONG history of supporting charity with garden open days will continue this year at Glenbervie House on Sunday August 2 from 2pm to 5pm.

For 80 years the 12 acres of garden at Glenbervie House have delighted visitors taking advantage of Scotland’s Gardens Scheme, SGS, that sees hidden away and normally private spaces open their gates in aid of charity.

Glenbervie House, Drumlithie sits just a few miles south of Stonehaven and offers woodland, paths, lawns, burns, herbaceous borders, hedging, vegetable plot, annuals, roses and a folly.

A five house heated greenhouse stands majestic at the top of the one and a half acre walled garden, filled with a large variety of plants, bananas, orchids bougainvillea, and bird of paradise to name but a few. Put all this together and it is a spectacular garden to explore.

Visitors can also enjoy a plant and bakery stalls, with teas being served in the garage. All monies raised will be donated to charity. Glenbervie House’s chosen charity is The Scottish Air Ambulance who will receive 60% with the remainder going to SGS charities.

The SGS was started in 1931 to raise funds for the Queen’s Nursing Institute Scotland, to help support the district nurses working in their communities as Queen’s Nurses, before the creation of the National Health Service. Today the range of charities supported is quite broad including Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres.

All are welcome to attend. Please bring cash. Entry to the gardens of Glenbervie House is £6 with children under the age of 12 free of charge. Please note, other than guide dogs, no dogs are allowed.
