DRIVERS heading south on the coast road will face diversions next week, with a closure on the A92 Main Road, St Cyrus from Monday August 10 for up to 5 days – while bus passengers will enjoy scenes of the Mearns not normally encountered on their route.

The closure is necessary for resurfacing works for a pedestrian crossing. A series of diversions for bus services has been announced by Aberdeenshire Council’s Passenger Transport Unit:

  • Service E17: Ember are diverting service E17 from Montrose via A937 to Marykirk and A90, then B967 (Arbuthnott road) onto the A92 north of Inverbervie to return to normal route.
  • Service X7: Stagecoach East are diverting service X7 from Montrose via A935 to Brechin, A90, then B967 (Arbuthnott road), onto the A92 and normal route to Stonehaven.
  • Service 107: Stagecoach service 107 will only operate between Stonehaven and Johnshaven as the bus cannot get into St Cyrus to turn due to where the closure is planned, meaning St Cyrus and Montrose will not be served. As a temporary measure Shorts Travel will operate a wheelchair accessible shuttle service between Montrose to St Cyrus at the times of the service 107 during the closure. There will be no charge for use of this shuttle bus service. You can find the timetable for this service attached to this e-mail.  Unfortunately, those who are looking to travel from Johnshaven to Montrose or Montrose to Johnshaven will be required to connect with the E17 / X7 during these works.

The Unit apologises for any inconvenience this may cause to travel arrangements.  After discussions with the road teams unfortunately due to the nature of the work and the machinery used, there were no alternative solutions, and they were unable to allow access to bus services without causing issues with health and safety regulations.
