A PARADE headed by over a hundred-strong pipeband will make its way to Stonehaven’s War Memorial tomorrow afternoon.
Exactly a century ago a similar procession marched to the now familiar landmark for a service of dedication for the temple-like structure. For one hundred years it has been not only the most fitting tribute to the fallen – it has become an iconic image of the town.
Martin Sim has written an account of the events surrounding the War Memorial’s erection, and a second about its architect, John Ellis. These were published in The Bellman in 2019 and would make for a fascinating read for those interested in tomorrow’s event: links are below this poster giving the details of tomorrow’s parade and ceremony.
